154 ambulances deployed, helicopter and boat ambulance services available, health monitoring through e-health Dham portal Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has taken significant steps to enhance health services for pilgrims undertaking the Chardham Yatra 2025. With a focus on safety and medical preparedness, the Health Department has introduced several initiatives to provide seamless healthcare services along the pilgrimage route. New Hospitals in Kedarnath and Badrinath In a major development, two new hospitals are being established in Kedarnath and Badrinath. According to Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, a 17-bed hospital in Kedarnath and a 45-bed hospital in Badrinath will ensure quality healthcare for pilgrims. Additionally, 25 specialist doctors will be deployed along the Yatra route to provide timely medical assistance. Expanded Health Facilities on the Yatra Route To address high-altitude health concerns, 20 Medical Relief Posts (MRPs) and 31 health check-up centers will be set up along the pilgrimage route. Furthermore, 37 permanent health centers in transit districts like Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, and Tehri have been strengthened, with plans to establish new screening units. Emergency Medical Services: 154 Ambulances, Helicopter, and Boat Ambulance Ensuring quick emergency response, 154 ambulances, including 17 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, will be stationed along the route. In addition, helicopter ambulances operated by AIIMS Rishikesh and boat ambulances on Tehri Lake will be available for rapid medical evacuation in critical cases. Improved Safety Measures Last year, over 34,000 medical emergency cases were reported during the Yatra, with 1,011 patients rescued via ambulance and 90 via helicopter. To further improve response time, the government is increasing the number of Health Friends (first medical responders) to ensure immediate assistance for pilgrims. This year, health services are being upgraded with the e-Health Dham portal. A special ‘Save Money’ button will be introduced for immediate financial assistance in emergencies. Additionally, 28 key health parameters of pilgrims will be monitored using the Point of Care Testing Device, enabling quick health assessments. Government Commitment to a Safe Yatra Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar highlighted that while lakhs of devotees undertook the Chardham Yatra last year, only a few faced serious health issues. With enhanced health services, the government aims to minimize health risks. The Central Government has also approved funds for health worker incentives and a 50-bed hospital in Guptkashi. Future Plans for Pilgrim Safety To further safeguard pilgrims, a mandatory health declaration will be promoted to identify high-risk individuals before the journey. Additionally, the emergency call center will be strengthened, and training will be provided to hotel staff, dharamshala workers, mule operators, and other service providers along the route. The Uttarakhand government, under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, remains dedicated to making Chardham Yatra 2025 not only spiritually fulfilling but also safe and comfortable from a health perspective.
